Hey,
My name is Brianna Banful and I have a passion for storytelling. As a young kid, writing stories was a creative outlet. It was a way for me to express myself and see just how far my imagination could go. Now, as an adult my storytelling looks a bit different. Instead of focusing on my imagination, I focus on my culture.
As a young Black girl with Ghanaian parents, it was often hard to find representation in mainstream media. The girls on TV did not look like me or sound like me. It was interesting to see how stories about girls like me got overlooked or simplified. It was as though Black stories didn’t matter and weren’t worthy enough to be shown on screen.
Through my stories, I want to give Black people the opportunity to be represented in the mainstream media. I want to give them the opportunity to see and hear their stories on a larger scale, and experience what it feels like to be understood and uplifted.
My interests include brand marketing, campaign strategy, media relations, and understanding how cultural trends influence consumer behavior. I enjoy deconstructing campaigns to analyze what makes them effective and how brands can communicate authentically with their audiences while offering a diverse perspective.
